L’intera arte di Leumas Roa è dedicata all’indagine delle potenzialità e contraddizioni dell’umano che, spesso, si manifestano proprio nel suo tentativo di “farsi progetto”, ossia di trascendersi – talvolta con gioia e leggerezza, talora con obbligazione e sofferenza – per realizzarsi su di un piano ulteriore, dove gli opposti “si attraggono”.

Questa tensione ideale appare ben tematizzata nelle due opere in mostra. “L’ultimo battito del cuore, e poi…” è uno studio geometrico-concettuale sull’aldilà: tra vita e morte non vi è contrapposizione, piuttosto continuità, lungo la spirale infinita dell’eterno ritorno del simile.

Questo insegnamento, ben radicato nella cultura messicana, è esibito dall’artista in un linguaggio strettamente contemporaneo: l’elettrocardiogramma che sancisce il trapasso coincide con l’apertura della vita infinita. In termini complementari, “Il potere delle mani” mostra la potenza demiurgica dell’uomo: il progetto umano è ‘in mano’ all’uomo stesso – l’uomo è “fabbro del proprio destino” –, ma il bello nasce solo quando i progetti vengono condivisi, quando sono fertili perché capaci di generare nuova vita.

The entire art of Leumas Roa is devoted to investigating the potentials and contradictions of the human being, which often manifest precisely in its attempt to “become a project,” that is, to transcend itself. Sometimes it does it with joy and lightness, at other times with obligation and suffering: the aim is to realize itself on a further plane, where opposites “attract each other.”

This ideal tension is clearly expressed in the two works on display. “The Last Beat of the Heart, and Then…” is a geometric-conceptual study of the afterlife: between life and death there is no opposition, but rather continuity, along the infinite spiral of the eternal return of the same.

This teaching, deeply rooted in Mexican culture, is presented by the artist in a distinctly contemporary language: the electrocardiogram that marks the moment of passing coincides with the opening of infinite life. In complementary terms, “The Power of Hands” shows the demiurgic power of human beings: the human project is ‘in the hands’ of humanity itself – man is the “blacksmith of his own destiny” – but beauty arises only when projects are shared, when they are fertile because they are capable of generating new life.
